Colombo is an unusual city in that it doesn't actually have a city centre as such. Initially the city of Colombo was centred around the Fort/ Pettah areas, and its in these areas that you find some examples of the Dutch period in Colombo. However in the late 1800s this area became dirty due too heavy maritime activity, and so the British planned a new city just to the south. This area was situated within the area of what was then a cinnamon estate originally planted in the Dutch period. Within this area they planned a new city centre with a new town hall a museum as well as grand homes, hotels and restaurants .
Its in this area that "27" now resides, and Colombo 5 is one of the best and safest areas in Colombo, infact our President himself lives just two blocks away from "27".
Our home is within walking distance to shops, supermarkets and some of the most popular restaurants in Colombo. Indeed Independence square (10 min on foot) is also within this area, as is the Paradise road gallery cafe and the Barefoot cafe.
The old area of Fort station and Pettah is less than 20 minutes by Tuk Tuk depending on Colombo's mad traffic.
