About “Kokotoki”
,Kokotoki is a former teahouse built in the late Edo period which Located in Kanazawa’s Higashi Chaya District, a nationally designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Here, you can do more than just “stay”—you can truly experience life as it was in the late Edo era.
Beyond the guest rooms, the property preserves traditional spaces such as a tea room, ice storage house, well, and Japanese garden, allowing you to feel as if you have stepped back in time. Unique staircases once used in daily life and sunlit verandas that carry the scents of the town offer a glimpse into everyday Edo-period living. Guest rooms are also furnished with items that help you imagine the lifestyle of the era. (Optional experiences include preparing matcha in your room or participating in sake tasting at nearby facilities.)
Situated in the heart of Higashi Chaya District, a stroll through the quiet nighttime alleys may even reward you with a glimpse of geisha passing by. Take the time to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this historic town.
Guest Guidelines
As Kokotoki is located within the Important Preservation District of Kanazawa’s Higashi Chaya District, fire safety regulations are strict. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas, both indoors and outdoors. The surrounding area also includes private residences, so we ask that guests conduct themselves considerately during nighttime hours.
In the unlikely event that a guest’s behavior disturbs the neighbors, we may have to ask for early departure. Please note that in such cases, accommodation fees cannot be refunded.

Enjoy a hands-on experience with traditional Japanese dishes like hand-rolled sushi and miso soup, along with a tasting of three local Kanazawa sake varieties.
Our English-speaking hostess will guide you through the history of the area and its sake.
The café is a hidden spot, just a 2-minute walk from the Higashi Chaya District.
Higashi Chaya District is about 10 minutes by bus or car from Kanazawa Station. About 5 minutes from Omicho Market. It is in a good location, about 5 minutes from Kenrokuen.
There are many one-way streets and narrow roads in this area, so please park in the nearby coin parking when you come by car.
Our inn is located in the Important Preservation District for Traditional Buildings in Higashi Chaya District, a tourist destination in Kanazawa City. Fire rules are very strict, so smoking is not allowed inside or outside the building except in designated smoking areas.
