The owners, a couple who run the lodge, are passionate outdoor enthusiasts. Whenever they find a moment, they immerse themselves in trekking, mountain climbing, trail running, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, and all kinds of snow activities. On occasion, they also enjoy visiting nearby hot springs, savoring the seasonal mountain delicacies of northern Shinshu, and indulging in a local craft beer (Shiga Kogen Beer) or a natural wine from Obuse Winery.
Of course, living here isn’t always fun and games, but they hope to share the unique experiences and special essence of this area with as many guests as possible. If you feel even a little curious or intrigued about Okushiga, where they live and work, nothing would make them happier.
They look forward to welcoming you to the lodge, and hope you will enjoy your stay as much as they enjoy living here.

Seasonal Highlights
Spring:
Spring comes later in Okushiga at 1,500 m altitude, making it a rare opportunity to enjoy the unique mountain delicacies. Local wild herbs and seasonal mountain plants, rarely found in city supermarkets, are foraged from nearby forests and served fresh. In April, guests can also enjoy spring skiing, with snow often lasting until early May. In June, the opening ceremony of Mt. Iwatsukeyama marks the start of the summer mountain season.
Summer:
In summer, the temperature in Okushiga can be 10 °C cooler than in the valleys, making it a natural mountain retreat. On sunny days, gentle breezes sweep through the highlands, and at night, a sky full of stars creates a magical atmosphere. Chigoike, a high-altitude pond at the summit of Mt. Yakebitai, remains a rare alpine wetland and is a popular spot for hikers.
Autumn:
In autumn, the Zako River valley along Okushiga is ablaze with spectacular fall colors. A drive along the winding mountain roads to Akiyama-go, steeped in legends of Heike fugitives, is also highly recommended.
Winter:
Winter brings world-class powder snow to Shiga Kogen. Okushiga is particularly famous for its snow quality, where moisture is squeezed out by low-pressure systems from the Sea of Japan before falling, creating superb powder conditions. Recently, skiers and snowboarders from Australia, North America, Europe, and across Asia have discovered this hidden gem.
