Through private, whole-house stays in traditional homes and sightseeing tours that showcase the island’s many charms, we promise special experiences. At the heart of our work is a strong commitment to “carrying Shodoshima into the future.” Beautiful landscapes, time-honored culture, and warm-hearted people. By sharing these charms with audiences in Japan and abroad, we aim to make Shodoshima a place loved by even more people.

Property information

A privately rented, whole-house villa converted from a 95-year-old traditional Japanese house. Complimentary pick-up and drop-off at the port are available. Dinner and breakfast are available for an additional fee. *Availability depends on local chef arrangements and cannot be guaranteed. Check-in: 15:00–21:00 Check-out: by 10:00 Relax in your own time on a spacious estate with a traditional Japanese house, large garden, vegetable plots, fruit trees, and a chicken coop. This property is a renovated residence of a prominent local family that contributed to the region’s development, retaining its classic charm while adding modern comforts. At the BAR housed in a 150-year-old kura (storehouse), local drinks (sake, beer, wine, and more) and snacks are available for purchase. A projector with Google TV is also available. The estate spans approximately 3,000 m². During your stay, you’re welcome to harvest seasonal vegetables and fruit or collect eggs from the coop—free of charge. The bath is a semi open-air soaking bath where you can unwind while looking out over a small courtyard garden set into the building. The water is natural well water—silky-soft and gentle on the skin. There is also a one-person Finnish sauna next to the bath. Soothe body and mind with dry heat and steam, and enjoy the warming, circulation-boosting effects. The location sits between mountains that unfold before you and the distant sea. Far from the bustle, you’ll hear insects at night and birdsong in the morning. Gaze out the windows, stroll the garden, and take in the breeze, light, and seasons—time to breathe in a private space where no one will disturb you. We also operate a community-based travel company and can arrange private guided tours. Please inquire after booking.

Neighbourhood information

The surrounding area is a quiet residential neighborhood. We are located in an area known as “Hishio-no-Sato,” lined with soy sauce breweries. During the daytime when soy sauce is being made, the aroma may drift through the air depending on the wind. In the mornings and evenings, only birdsong and the chirping of insects can be heard. Please take your time and enjoy island time.
