We are a 'Kyomachiya' ryokan.
We are a newly built small inn that faithfully reproduces a typical Kyoto house (Kyo-machiya) from approximately 100 years ago.
The tatami rooms, the vaulted lobby and the courtyard, which cannot be seen from the outside, are traditional Kyoto architecture, which is now rare, but everything is 100 years old in size, so the doors are low and the rooms are small (and the rooms are even smaller because we have installed modern showers and toilets in the small rooms).
Unlike most large Japanese ryokans, we do not serve dinner, have no indoor onsen, no soft beds or lifts. Our location is in a residential area, not a tourist area.
So if you are expecting a luxurious, spacious ryokan in the heart of a tourist area, an elegant stay experience, unfortunately we cannot meet your expectations.
But we can offer you 'real Kyoto living'.
-The beauty of machiya architecture, crafted over many years.
-The experience of ordinary Japanese life, including Japanese-style bedding- futon- and pyjamas.
-A buffet with a typical Japanese breakfast menu, including bread from Kyoto's favourite bakery and a traditional pickle shop.
-Experience the public baths that Kyoto people love (free tickets provided).
Kyoto has many tourist attractions, which can be entered for an entrance fee. However, we believe that these experiences offer value that money cannot buy.
Not just sightseeing, but real experiences that allow you to get in touch with the heart of Kyoto. This is what we want to offer to our guests.
We look forward to welcoming you to Kyoto.
周边信息
10 minutes by bus from Kyoto Station.
The surrounding area is a traditional downtown area and there is one of the most popular public bathhouses in Kyoto right in front of the house, where you will receive a free bathing ticket every day (on days when the bathhouse is closed, you will be guided to another one). There are also many locally loved restaurants, and you will receive a map of shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood when you check in.
Within walking distance are the World Heritage Sites Nishi Honganji Temple and Mibudera Temple. Nijo Castle is also a 10-minute bus ride or a 20-minute walk away. It is a 12-minute walk to Shijo-Omiya Station, the first station on the Randen tram, which runs directly to Arashiyama. Although not in the middle of a tourist area, the location is convenient for getting anywhere with many bus stops.
