Pongyi means "Buddhist monk" in Myanmar.
Masaki, the owner of Pongyi, changed his life after leaving his previous job and going to Myanmar to experience being a monk.
He named this guesthouse with the thought that "May all people be filled with the joy of life" (Gayuna Cealo, whom Masaki looks up to as his master) , and that he would always remember to "Look at yourself and think about what you can do for others while looking at yourself".
The owner 'Masaki', who opened this guesthouse alone in 2009, has lived in South America (Paraguay and Brazil) and has a continental personality that always says "everything will be fine".
The Okami (landlady), 'Nina', was born and raised in Ishikawa Pref. and has been working at Pongyi since 2017, resonating with Pongyi's philosophy. She is laid back, but always smiling and a hard worker who never falters.
We want Pongyi to be a place that is like a crossroads for travelers.
We also want to be a guesthouse where people from abroad can feel the goodness of ordinary life in Japan.
We look forward to seeing you all in Kanazawa.
