Originally this flat was owned by my aunt and uncle: their names were Rossana and Antonio, (hence R&T Suite House Roma); my aunt was a cheerful person who loved to be in company - I think more coffee was made for friends and relatives in this house than in the adjacent bar!
My uncle Antonio, called 'TOTO' by all who knew him, was the classic old Roman man, gruff, soft-hearted and easy to cry. During their lives, unfortunately, my aunt and uncle had no children, but this fact did not separate them, in fact it made them even closer to each other. The second of 10 children, Aunt Rossana had four sisters and five brothers, many of whom, due to their age difference, could have passed for her children. In reality, especially after the untimely death of her mother, for many of her siblings Aunt Rossana had represented a deep connection to their origins.
At Christmas, Easter and many other holidays, we would gather in this house to celebrate together. In those days the flat was laid out differently, with a living room and a bedroom: imagine 20 or more people celebrating here, right where you are now!
Unforgettable memories.
I still remember when, as a child, I used to come here with my parents to visit my aunt and uncle.
I would stay and play in the courtyard with the other children who lived in this building, but when one of us was thirsty, we would go under their window and.... "Rossana! Rossana!" She would appear with a glass of cool water in her hand and hand it to the thirsty person from the window, asking if they wanted another; if anyone was hungry, there was always a biscuit ready for everyone! All this still happened until recently, when I, now grown up, would come to visit Aunt Rossana with.
