Arturo and Monica complete their life project dedicated to tourism and hospitality with the B&B. Italian Canadian he, transplanted to Apulia, was enraptured by the magnetic beauty of the city of Matera, thus electing it as his permanent home. A lover of good food and wine, he opened 'L'Arturo' wine and food shop in Piazza del Sedile in 2006, promoting Lucanian specialities and flavours. In addition to the food and the cultural landscape of the city, he was won over by Monica, his wife since 1999. Together they opened the doors of their home to welcome and share the experience of visiting Matera with tourists and travellers.

The B&B L'arturo, is housed in our own home, located on Via Tre Corone at numbers 9 and 10: it is a large house built in the 16th century and extended in the 18th century. The house is distributed along terraces and stairways, towers and courtyards, in a lively architectural movement that has reminded many of Escher's famous staircase; the progressive remodelling that has taken place over the centuries testifies, more simply, to a continuous adaptation of the structure to the varying needs, first family, then functional, of the owners in each period.
Via delle Tre Corone runs along the Sasso Barisano district, parallel to Via Duomo that leads to the Apulian Romanesque Cathedral, and owes its name to the duty owed for access to the Civita. The B&B's location is at the heart of Matera's history: in fact, it is one of the few points of access to the two Sassi districts, Barisano and Caveoso, to the Cathedral Basilica with the Civita, and to the Old Town (with Via Ridola, Via del Corso, Via San Biagio and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, which surround the two ancient Sassi districts on the plan).
A few metres from 'L'arturo' is Piazza del Sedile, one of the city's most beautiful meeting places, pervaded by a discrete background music that attests to the presence of the nearby 'E.R. Duni' Conservatory.
Piazza Sedile is also overlooked by 'L'arturo' food and wine shop, which is run by our family.
