I (Thora) am a practicing visual artist and educator and my partner Sumarlidi is a historian, writer, and editor. We opened our 2-room guesthouse in 2014. Since 2006 we have organized art- and cultural events at Nyp and in the neighbourhood of Nyp; lectures on local literature, history, art exhibitions, musical events as well as seminars f.ex. on the use of seaweed as part of daily nutrition.
住宿信息
Guesthouse Nyp is situated under the mount Nypurhyrna, facing the Breidafjordur Bay. It is a former farmhouse built of concrete, but farming was abandoned in 1968. Since then the house stood empty and neglected until 2001 when we acquired the property and started renovating. We love the place and are happy to share it with good guests! Guesthouse Nyp is ideal for those who choose to have a quiet “off-the-main-road” nature experience in Iceland. We promote fair trade and grow our own organic vegetables; the breakfast includes fresh home made bread of organically grown ingredients and we make marmalade of berries, rhubarb and wild angelica, - all picked fresh from nature.

We are only 20min drive from the main road to the Westfjords, but when in Guesthouse Nýp you have the feeling of being quite remote - which our guests appreciate very much! Hardly a house in sight...
For a hike; the mountain Nýpurhyrna and the valley with a beautiful brook are right behind the house, the shore is 15min walk down the meadow. Our guests love to hike down to the shore - or into the valley - and if you are fond of birdwatching or are interested in the arctic flora, you´ll find plenty to observe! The view is open to the bay, the skerries and the islands - on the other side of the bay you see the mountains of the Westfjords. Our house faces West - so we enjoy the midnight sun when it dives down into the mountains on the other side of the bay - right in front of our house - without it ever getting dark ... in August it starts to get a little dark again...
There are warm outdoor swimming pools in Holmavik (50Km) and in Reykholar (50Km) and in Laugar (40Km), and small but interesting local museums in the same villages. With pleasure we will arrange horse riding for you at a neighbour farm; please let us know in advance if you are interested in trying out their horses.
