Guesthouse Galtafell is a historical house and the former home of the beloved Icelandic artist Guðmundur Thorsteinsson - Muggur. His father built the house in 1916 after blueprints from Iceland´s state architect of that time Einar Erlendsson. The house has many characteristics which underline that it was meant to be used as an art studio such as large windows and bright rooms for the artist. In 1924 it was bought by Bjarni Jonsson (Bíó Bjarni) who was well known in Reykjavík for opening one of the city´s first cinemas. Bjarni was the youngest brother of the famous sculptor Einar Jónsson. The Einar Jónsson Museum is within 10 minutes walking distance of Guesthouse Galtafell.
