History of Puri Lumbung
Lumbung or rice barns are part of Bali's unique cultural heritage. Traditionally used to store rice under the protection of the goddess Dewi Sri, granaries are now rarely used as farming techniques have changed.
We found several unused barns averaging 80 years old, and with a little tweaking adapted them into simple but charming accommodations. Of course we had a special ritual to move Dewi Sri back into the rice fields, but the gentle energy was still there. This property was established in May 1992
Puri Lumbung is located in the cool mountain air where fans and air conditioners are not needed. Our compound is designed in the traditional Balinese way modeled on the sacred human form with a shrine at the head, guest accommodation at the heart and other facilities at the foot.
The first of its kind in Bali, Puri Lumbung is more than a hotel - it is an ecotourism project dedicated to the discovery, preservation and enhancement of unspoiled areas around Munduk. The people of Munduk Village are as involved as possible in caring for our guests.
