Nine Olives is a unique purpose built holiday house that was completed in June 2024. It is on a fantastic site. It has been designed with great attention to detail to make the most of the site and provide exceptional facilities for extended families and groups of friends. Every group that has stayed in it since completion has said exceptionally nice things about both the house and location.
The greatest glory are magnificent sea views, looking direct to the sunset. Four main bedrooms are each the same size and have direct sea views through French windows They each have walk in showers and two basins. The fifth can be a family suite or be used independently. There is a standalone room with bathtub and secluded al fresco shower. The bedrooms open onto a large veranda and the pool, which features a “sitting shelf”. The pool is treated by hydrolysis, with no chemicals. The chapel-style section above is a wonderful space, entirely glazed, with retractable windows, on the sea-facing side. It has an open plan kitchen and dining area, with a round table seating 10. A spiral stair leads to the mezzanine lounge, with even better views. There are two spacious roof terraces.
I am a management consultant specialising in heritage and culture. I live in England. I was joint owner of a house in Stari Grad for 12 years. I like it so much there that, on selling the house, I started to look for the best site in the town to build a perfect holiday home. Nine Olives is the result. I, working with local architects Morpharos, have carefully designed it to be a fantastic holiday house for extended families and groups of friends. It has been built by an excellent local construction company. We have combined ultra-modern design with respect for local tradition, especially in the form of dry stone walling on the outside. I deal with all queries from guests. Sanela Moškatelo manages the house for me. Robert Čagalj, a very helpful taxi service with 2 x 8 seater Mercedes vans, collects guests without cars from the ferry port (1 km away) and takes them on day trips. We have a private chef and massage service on request.
The house is a short walk from Lanterna beach, a beautiful pine tree-surrounded cove with a pebble beach, sunbathing area, lovely swimming and beautiful beach bar. Sandy Maslinica beach is less than 2km away via a beautiful coastal path.
The house is on the edge of Stari Grad, which is the perhaps the oldest and most beautiful town in Croatia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is strung out along the side of its harbour, with traffic free quays on both sides. The car-free walk along the harbourside from the house to the town centre is beautiful. It is about 600m to the main square. There are innumerable boats of different shapes and sizes moored in Stari Grad harbour and there is always activity on the water. Small boats and sailing dinghies can be hired. The stone-built old town has winding narrow alleys and hidden squares, with numerous ancient churches. It is car-free and children love playing in it. There are many restaurants, bars, coffee shops and ice cream shops to choose from. All of Hvar's outstanding attractions are within easy reach.
