Wander through the alleys of the one and only Village (“Chorio”) and discover its picturesque Cycladic touches at every step.
The “Chorio”, built at the foot of Mount Xaplovuni, with its all-white houses, flower-filled courtyards and narrow winding streets with white-painted joints (“armous”), is a Cycladic painting with a special, local note. The oldest residential center is the Castle, around which the settlement expanded since the end of the 17th century, but mainly after the Greek Revolution. So, the closer a house is to the Castle, the older it is, as a rule.
In the village of Kimolos, you will not find a large central square, but some small ones such as Kampos (with the playground), Theoskepasti or at the school (with an amazing view).
In the Village, you will find several shops, a dispensary, a pharmacy, Post Office, Police Station, taverns, restaurants, coffee bars, steakhouses, mini markets, etc.
In Kimolos there is a turquoise, sparkling sea, in all the incredible shades of blue and a beach for everyone: Organized, crowded or quiet, with sand, with pebbles or with rocks for diving, long or small, with shallow or deep water.
Most of the beaches are easily accessible, but there are also some dreamy ones in the north of the island and in Polyaigos, for which you need a boat.
To learn more about the island, we recommend visiting the Archaeological museum or the Folklore and Maritime Museum of Kimolos. By boat, you can go around the island and enjoy the pristine northern beaches of Kimolos or visit the neighboring islands of Polyaigos, Milos, or even Sifnos.
If you love hiking, dozens of trails lead you to every part of the island. In the northwestern part, there is a huge stone mushroom, the "Skiadi", whose formation is due to its different layers of rock and the strong winds. It is included in the Atlas of Geological Monuments of the Aegean and is a really outstanding sight.
