周边信息
Aroniadika is a traditional village with stone houses and narrow streets . The village is more or less located in the centre of Kythira, ten kilometers from Agia Pelagia and fifteen kilometers from the capital Chora. When you arrive at the village, the first thing you see is the church. In the village there is a very nice kafeneion (coffee shop), a good souvalki restaurant and at the T-junction there is a large supermarket.
The village is known for its beautiful traditional buildings. Some hamlets in and around the village have been declared protected architectural hamlets. Above the door, on the façade, usually you can see the date the house was built. People have lived here since the Middle Ages. The old abandoned buildings that stood here have been restored in recent years making the village popular. According to tradition, this village was founded by the inhabitants of Paliochora after 1537 when the pirate Barbarossa pillaged their village. The name ‘Aroniadika’ is derived from the name Aronis, which was a prominent family in the 18th and 19th centuries. The houses are built close together and the stone alleyways are narrow.
