Welcome to "The Lodge", a charming converted Victorian washroom near the centre of Holmfirth - home of “Last of The Summer Wine” and The Picturedrome.
Location: Across from our house, by the park. A 2 minute walk down the hill to central Holmfirth.
Inside: Private and self-contained. Gas central-heating. Comfortable double bed. Wifi, TV, DAB radio. Fridge. Tea and coffee. Hairdryer. Shower room with toiletries and towels.
Outside: Key safe. Terrace with table and chairs. Reserved parking on our drive - please park in the middle in front of the steps.
Our lovely mini-cottage was once the washroom to the main house. It was built from local stone c 1900 and originally contained white glazed tiles, a coal-fired range and a stone wash tub. On the side of the building is a face carved in stone, which we have been told is that of the man who had the houses built for his 2 daughters. We have converted "The Lodge" into a bedroom with an ensuite shower room. It is well insulated and heated by a radiator and towel rail from a gas boiler located in our garage. On fine days you will be able to enjoy breakfast in the sunshine on the small terrace where there are garden chairs and a table.
Your hosts are Cathy and David (usually known as George).
We live at Number 3, which is across the drive from The Lodge, with a light blue front door.
We like to greet our guests on arrival whenever possible, so please feel free to contact us in advance to arrange this, or to obtain the number for the key safe.
In any case, we will send you a text beforehand with further information.
Home-baked cake or biscuits will greet your arrival.
However, please note that there are no cooking facilities in the room.
We can make recommendations regarding the wide choice of places to eat and drink nearby.
We aim to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible.
Check-in from 3pm and check-out by 10am please.
However, you are welcome to park on the drive before check-in if you wish.
We are located literally a stone's throw from the centre of the lively and friendly town of Holmfirth, adjacent to Victoria Park. All the local amenities are conveniently available within walking distance. Whether you are here for shopping and sight-seeing; the food, music or art festivals; a live-music gig at the Picturedrome; or to enjoy a night out in one of the many pubs and restuarants, you will be able to leave the car safely parked and set off into town on foot. There are also several cafes in the town to choose from for breakfast and lunch. Please note that Cooper Lane is steep with a narrow cobbled pavement on one side only. Holmfirth is an ideal base or stop-over point for walking, cycling and touring holidays. It lies in the picturesque Holme Valley and is close to the Peak District National Park. The Tour de France route came through here before attacking the formidable climb up Holme Moss in 2014. The council-run gym and swimming pool, and a recreation ground, are only half a mile away by the river.
There is a bus station in the middle of Holmfirth. The bus to Huddersfield stops near the bottom of our road. Taxis are readily available.
