After living overseas in a bustling city for 12 years, Quidhampton Mill was the ideal house for us when we decided to move back to the UK with our young family. Located minutes from Salisbury we feel that we are still within easy reach of the city and yet we have gorgeous countryside and river views to wake up to each morning. We converted an outbuilding into 3 B&B rooms which we ran for nearly 5 years and we then converted the rooms into 2 self catering apartments. The apartments are steps away from our main house so we now enjoy meeting guests from all over the world who become our 'neighbours', whether that's for 2 nights or 2 months.
Having been involved in the hospitality industry overseas for many years, it was a natural progression that we would continue to host and look after guests when we returned to the UK. Our B&B gained a lot of national press coverage including The Sunday Times, The Times, Country Homes & Interiors and BBC Countryfile magazine. We decided to convert to self catering to give us more time to expand and refurbish other properties. My husband Martin is now refurbishing a gorgeous one bedroom bolthole on Gold Hill in Shaftesbury which has just been voted by The Telegraph as one of the "Most Idyllic Winter Villages in the UK". We also have another house in the centre of Salisbury that we may start to offer for short term lets to contract workers who are looking for a shared house.
Salisbury is such a great base for exploring the south of England. We are just 90 minutes by train from London Waterloo, less than an hour's drive from Bath, Winchester, Southampton and about 90 minutes from Portsmouth, Oxford and the Cotswolds. We are very close to the New Forest, parts of which can be reached in just 25 minutes drive, and we are within an hour's drive of the stunning Dorset coast. Closer to home we have the historic gem of Wilton House just around the corner and Salisbury Cathedral should be on every visitor's wish list, whether that's a tower tour, choral evensong or simply a walk around the Cathedral Close to soak up the quintessential English atmosphere.
