Hi!
The guests enjoy the locality and all it has to offer - The Balerno Inn, an award winning bar/restaurant or The Grey Horse, a 300 year old pub recently refitted with 3 bars offering Charcuterie with a selection of fine wines and whiskys. Rumour has it the infamous Burke and Hare used this hostelry while plotting their macabre business! There are also family owned Indian and Italian restaurants, Dhaba36 and Napoli, where the food is cooked and served with love. When you're local you have to be good to be busy!
The above are less than a 10 minute walk by the river,Water of Leith, the opening to which is directly opposite the JustB driveway.
We are situated in the foothills of the Peatland Hills national park with its beautiful walks, reservoirs for fishing and mountain bike trails.
The Lost Shore surfing resort and the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena,(EICA) are a 15 minute drive
The city centre can be accessed easily by bus, every 10 minutes,(44), and runs until midnight. Alternatively, there is a park and ride,(Curriehill train station) which takes 11 minutes to Waverley city centre which also runs till midnight.
Edinburgh is more than a medieval Disneyland - come meet the locals, enjoy the countryside and the real Edinburgh Scotland.
Balerno or gaelic name Ballenoch, meaning farm with the sloe bushes, was first mentioned in written records in the 13th century. It was developed in the 18th century with the growth of snuff, paper and flaxseed and the railway to the city centre was built to carry the freight. Now it's stunning leafy idyll full of walkers, cyclists, horse riders which takes you to the heart of Edinburgh's city centre ,(8 miles), or the Pentland National park where you can enjoy the outdoor pursuits on offer. Rambling, fishing , birdwatching, (we have a stunning heron living on the Water of Leith walkway whose entrance is on our doorstep).
