I am a recently retired Electrical Engineer and have been renovating Deri-Down since we moved in 1994 whilst our children have grown up and left most not too far. Married to Delyth who still works in the nursing community looking after the elderly, for the past 37 years had 4 children and have 8 grandchildren, in my younger days played football, squash, cricket, and table-tennis and now just table-tennis & golf in my latter years. I was also a Retained firefighter for nearly ten years in the local community and chairman of the community centre for 2 years. I have been very fortunate in my life to be involved with many organisations and able to communicate and socialise with all generations of people hence why I enjoy hosting and meeting people from all over the world and look forward to that each day.
We are situated in a small village on the main road with a local produce shop, Post Office and a Fish & Chip Shop. A relatively new 18 hole parkland golf course within half a mile and at the foot of many walks and treks of the surrounding mountains. Just behind our house is the local community centre complete with football ground and playground behind them is a local mountain known as The Deri hence where our name originates. From the bedroom windows to the front the Little Skirrid & Big Skirrid can be seen another local mountain is The Blorenge along with our most famous Mountain The Sugarloaf all within easy reach. We also have several Castles known as Abergavenny, Whitecastle, Grosmont, Skenfrith & Raglan all within a 8 mile radius. Just a short drive 6 miles we have Blaenavon Heritage site of the Old Iron works etc along with Big Pit National Coal Museum and Heritage Steam Railway enjoy the experience of a trip underground or on the steam train. If that's not enough just another short drive 8 miles to Llangorse Lake where water sports & activities are available if you want a more sedate ride on the water try Mon to Brecon Canal where you can hire boats for the day.
