We’re Esther and Nick - the hearts behind Beside the Loch. A couple of years ago, we swapped the busy streets of Brighton for the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands, chasing a dream that had been with us for over 15 years. Fast forward to now, and here we are - living our dream in Onich.
At Beside the Loch, you’ll find cabins and cottages designed for slowing down, reconnecting with nature, and diving into adventure. We live on site with our two boys, Hamish and Fraser, so you’ll often see us out running/biking trails, swimming in the loch, or pointing guests to our favourite hidden gems.
We’ll even take you wild swimming, trail running, or to a hidden waterfall or two. Think of us as your friendly hosts - here to make sure your time Beside the Loch feels a little bit like heaven.
With love, Nick, Esther, Hamish & Fraser x

Ash, Birch & Rowan cabins - A view you’ll never forget.
Step out onto your balcony and take in Loch Linnhe, with mountains that change colour as the light shifts. Or stay snug inside - curl up on the sofa with a cuppa or a wee dram and watch the weather roll past the giant windows. Rabbits on the grass, birdsong at dawn, stargazing and sunsets that stop you in your tracks all come as standard.
A three-minute stroll across the field brings you to our secret beach - a peaceful spot for a dip, a paddle, or simply a coffee with a view. From here you can watch the hills glow pink at sunset and, on a clear day, look out across the water to the Isle of Mull.
Inside, our cabins are cosy and well-equipped.
Extras include:
- Laundry & drying room for soggy kit
- Gym on site
- Barn storage for bikes, boards, or motorbikes
- Adventure or relaxation – all from a comfortable base Beside the Loch
- Open-water swim sessions with a qualified instructor

Explore Lochaber - the Outdoor Capital of the UK.
Onich is perfectly placed between Fort William and Glencoe, giving you access to mountains, glens, lochs, islands, and everything in between.
We love helping guests discover the area from recommendations in the brilliant Cheeky Walks Lochaber book, to hopping on the nearby Corran Ferry for Ardnamurchan, or booking a table at our friendly local pub, Roam West.
Our top guest favourites:
-Glencoe. Iconic, dramatic, and steeped in history.
-Ben Nevis. Britain’s highest mountain, with trails for all levels.
-The Jacobite Steam Train. Ride the Harry Potter viaduct from Fort William.
-Ardgour & Ardnamurchan. Sandy beaches, ancient woodland, and wildlife.
-Woodlands Spa & Golf. Luxury treatments or a round of golf just minutes from us.
-Water & trails. Kayak Loch Linnhe, run local paths, mountain bike, or cool dip in waterfalls.
Many travellers pass through Lochaber on their way to the islands, but those who stay always tell us they wish they’d stayed longer.
