Covercote is a historic Grade 2 listed building set in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, in a relatively undiscovered valley which was once an important postal and transport route, for which our barn, also grade 2 listed, now used for storage, played an important role as a horse-changeover and resting spot.
Covercote itself maintains its original features and Jane Austen style ambience, with the addition of a superb modern kitchen, smart TV/wifi, and ground source heatpump which keeps the place uniformly cosy throughout the year.
Views across Coverdale are superb from almost every window, and the back patio and gardens front and back.
There is ample private parking in front of the barn, and on the driveway.
We love sharing our house with appreciative visitors from across the country and abroad, contributing to a pleasure in and understanding of local country life in all its aspects, and helping to raise the profile of this still relatively quiet corner of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
We visit ourselves as often as we can, and have been through all the local attractions and distractions with our child from aged 4 to adulthood.
It's just gorgeous and unspoilt! Hiking, cycling, horseriding and fishing are all popular. Trails behind the house or across the lane will take you up onto the moors in 15 minutes. Aysgarth Falls and expertly restored medieval Bolton Castle are 20 minutes drive away, the famous Malham Cove on the Penine Way a longer, very scenic drive through Kettlewell. For small kids there are expert farm visits in Bedale, bigger kids of all ages get hooked on The Forbidden Corner gothic theme park, also 20 mins drive away. It's an hour to historic York's famous Railway Museum, or Darlington's aquatic Dolphin Centre, and a vintage Wensleydale Railway runs from Leyburn in holiday periods.
