“Franco & Patrick made us feel so welcome, especially as we were staying in their house packed with antiques and personal memorabilia. It was easy to get to the city center by bus/tram.”
The guesthouse is located in the UNESCO World Heritage protected area and within 15 minutes walk of the city centre. Regular bus services are available nearby to reach the city centre in 5 minutes. The guesthouse is a quiet residential area, home to many bourgeois sandstone houses built in the 18th and 19th century and Art-Deco houses from the 20th century. Close to the guesthouse are a small supermarket, opened daily, a good homemade bread maker and a self-service laundry. Within eight minutes walk towards the city centre is the quaint village of Saint Seurin with its magnificent UNESCO listed basilica dating back from the 11th century. In Saint Seurin there are a number of small cafés with outside terraces, typical English and Irish pubs and traditional French restaurants. In fact the city now starts at St Seurin. Parking in the street in our area is possible but is payable. It is payable either at the meter or via a Smartphone App which can be easily downloaded hence avoiding having to come back to the car every two hours. However, parking behind the Boulevards, and within five minutes walk of the guesthouse, is free of charge all day.
The owners, Patrick Desvaux de Marigny, is a French citizen born and in Mauritius and Bruno Rocchi is French from an Italian family background. They have lived in Bordeaux for over 20 years and they have been in the hospitality industry since. They know the city and its surrounding areas very well and are always happy to advise their guests during their stay at the guesthouse. They both live on the premises and love traditional cooking, Bordeaux wine, travelling and meeting with people from diverse backgrounds and countries. In the summer, Patrick organises a discovery a walking tour of Saint Emilion as well as a wine tasting at a property having two Chateaux and making wines according to traditional methods and also to the latest contemporary methods. Booking in advance for this tour is essential. We have also elaborated three small tourist guides which are at the disposal of our guests and based on our own experiences. A city tour of Bordeaux by foot or on a bike, a trip by car to the Côtes de Bordeaux close to the banks of the Garonne river and a trip by car to the Médoc and the wine areas of Côte de Blaye and Côtes de Bourg, by crossing the river Gironde on the ferry boat.
The guesthouse is located a quiet residential area, home to many bourgeois sandstone houses built in the 18th and 19th century and Art-Deco houses from the 20th century. A walk around the area will enable lovers of French architecture to admire many wonderfully renovated buildings and houses and some older ones still in need of renovation. Close to the guesthouse is a small supermarket, opened every day and selling just about everything. Lovers of traditional French bread will be delighted by the quality bread, patisseries and savoury bites sold at the homemade bread maker’s shop located on rue de la Croix Blanche. Further along and on the way to the city centre is a self-service laundry. Within eight minutes walk towards the city centre is the quaint village of Saint Seurin with its magnificent UNESCO listed basilica dating back from the 11th century, a number of small cafés with outside terraces, typical English and Irish pubs and traditional French restaurants. Behind the boulevards and within 10 minutes walk from the guesthouse is the Parc Bordelais dating back from the 19th century. It is an ideal place to go for walks in a peaceful surrounding and to go jogging.
