In the heart of Languedoc-Roussillon, the real south of France
Superb wine, Mediterranean cuisine, bustling villages and ports and over 300 days of sunshine each year have made the Languedoc-Roussillon region of the south of France increasingly popular in recent years. But despite the influx of home owners and visitors to the region, Languedoc has retained its old-world charm, and has escaped the over-development that has blighted much of Spain and those parts of France that developed in earlier decades.
Still Europe's largest wine-producing region, Languedoc also offers some of Europe's most beautiful countryside, with vineyards and garrigue-covered hills stretching for hundreds of miles between the Rhône river to the north to the Pyrénées mountains in the south. The area around Lodève is particularly picturesque and the views from the hamlet of Olmet, parched on a hill, are truly stunning. Lodève boasts a lively morning mark
