ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS: Villa Minna enjoys an exceptional location near the ski slopes, cross-country trails and the Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park. Despite its peaceful setting, the authentic village of Äkäslompolo – with shops, restaurants and essential services – is only a few minutes away, easily reached also by foot, taxi or ski bus. YLLÄS – A YEAR-ROUND DESTINATION Ylläs is one of Lapland’s most loved destinations, combining pristine nature, peaceful atmosphere and endless outdoor adventures. With 55 km of slopes, it is the largest ski resort in Finland, offering 300 km of cross-country trails and 100 km of groomed winter biking routes. PALLAS–YLLÄSTUNTURI NATIONAL PARK Right next to Villa Minna begin scenic trails for hiking and cycling. Along the routes are cozy cafés and traditional kotas (Lappish huts) where you can grill your own snacks by the fire. The nearby Kellokas Visitor Centre hosts exhibitions, a local fish shop and a restaurant. In winter you can enjoy snowmobiling, husky and reindeer safaris, or simply play in the snow under the polar night sky. Ylläs is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights, thanks to clear skies and and minimal light pollution – you can often watch them straight from Villa Minna’s yard. Nearby lies the Lapland Hotels SnowVillage, a magical snow and ice world rebuilt every winter and easily reachable by bus. In summer the midnight sun invites you to hike, cycle, paddle and fish day and night, while autumn paints the fells in vivid colours during the ruska season. HOW TO GET TO YLLÄS Äkäslompolo, located in the heart of Ylläs, lies 150 km north of Rovaniemi and only 40 km from Kittilä Airport. The nearest train station is in Kolari, approximately 35 km away.
