This is one of Villena's historical quarters. Known as "Rabal", first inhabitants began to settle in the XII century, when this area was part of "al-Andalus", in islamic times. This quarter still displays nowadays narrow and rambling streets typical from this culture. The old mosque, turned into the church of "Santa María" in the XVI century, it's been standing all this time, witnessing the neighbours changing throughout History. "Rabal" quarter skirts the castle of "Atalaya", built on top of a hill. Many houses took advantage of the limestone of the rock to dig new rooms into their homes. The cave-houses are one of the main distinctive features from the area. "Alhábega" house stands in the upper part of the quarter, right beside the castle, thereby views are really astonishing.
