I was born in England but grew up in Canada and my husband was born and raise in Dominica. After Angus retired from being a yacht designer and building in the United States and Europe, we moved back to Dominica and began building Kootney in 1995. By September 1997, we started hosting. We enjoy the nature and beauty that surrounds us and the friendly atmosphere of the island. We love hearing about how people found Dominica due to it always being mistaken to be Dominican Republic. When our guests go out on tours or hikes from our suggestions, hear them describe their experience is wonderful. I always say, "If you think that was beautiful, go a bit further around the bend and the view is even better!" How can you not love Dominica!

Kootney Resorts is ideal for divers, (we are in close proximity of 2 diver centers), families with children 11 years old and up, ( the 2 bedroom cottages are great for families) and couples. All of the cottages have their own private entrance and furnished patio where you can sit with a cool drink and enjoy the gardens. Hopefully, you will see some parrots flying by! Inside, the living room and kitchen is an open floor plan with a kitchen bar separating the 2 areas. The kitchen is fully equipped with full size fridge/freezer, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, plates/glasses/utensils/pots and pans. The 1 bedroom cottage has a king size bed and the 2 bedroom cottage has 2 queen size beds. There are desks and chairs in all bedrooms. All cottages have walk-in closets with storage area for suitcases. All bathrooms have large sunken bathtubs/showers. If you like to BBQ, we have a BBQ gazebo with table/benches with running water and lighting. Walk around the grounds and pick your own fruits, (while they are in season), oranges, tangerines, starfruit and bananas. If you want some fresh coconut water, we can arrange for one of our groundsmen to assist.

Kootney Resorts is within 5 miles of many things to do. Cabrits Fort Shirley is about 3 miles to the north of us and 2 dive centers close by. For restaurants/bars in the area, we have The Champs about 3 miles away, up on the hill, overlooking the bay, C & D Beach Bar & Grill, located on the beach, about 2 miles from us and Coco Mango Restaurant is just down the road. At Indian River, you can be paddled up the river to Cobra's restaurant and bar. Both Prince Rupert and Douglas Bay are great for snorkeling and diving.
