We are Dr. Kamila Szlachta and Dr. Philipp Klug, the proud hosts of your home in Playa Matapalo, Costa Rica. Let us tell you how our journey led us here. Kamila was born in Poland and came to Germany with her parents as a child. After studying chemistry in Bochum and completing her doctorate in Hamburg, she ventured into the business sector. There she worked as a medical writer and in special sales for renowned companies. Today she is a freelance medical writer. Philipp, who was born in Berlin and grew up in the Ruhr region, studied biochemistry in Bochum and also completed his doctorate in Hamburg. After his time in research, he also switched to the business sector, where he worked for 12 years as an account manager for international medical technology companies. During our travels around the world, we discovered our passion for tropical climes and especially for life by the warm ocean. Our love for surfing developed over the years until it became an integral part of our lives. Although we have visited many different countries, we were always drawn back to Costa Rica and Matapalo became our place of longing. After more than 10 visits as tourists and making friends with the local community, we decided to leave our hectic lives in Germany behind and start a new adventure in Costa Rica. And here we are, looking forward to sharing our passion for this beautiful country with you. We sincerely hope that you feel at home with us and enjoy Costa Rica as much as we do. Discover our modern Bed & Breakfast, just a 4-minute walk from the beautiful sandy beach of Playa Matapalo. In each room you will find a comfortable king-size bed, quiet and efficient air conditioning and an adjustable ceiling fan. A spacious fridge is also provided. Wooden bedside tables and a spacious wardrobe provide storage space for personal belongings. Enjoy relaxing on your 16 square metre private terrace. A table with two chairs, where we serve your breakfast, and two hanging chairs invite you to relax. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms and on the terrace. We serve a delicious breakfast with homemade bread and jam as well as homemade waffles.

This picturesque kilometre-long beach, free of rocks and stones, invites you to take relaxing walks and offers you the opportunity to explore the local flora and fauna. Our special highlight is the proximity to the area of the famous Manuel Antonio National Park, which is not open to the public and borders directly on Matapalo. Many of the animals that live in the national park can also be observed here in Matapalo. Monkeys, macaws, toucans and sloths live in the trees on the beach. With a bit of luck, you may even spot dolphins, whales and turtles. During the nesting season, our beach is a favourite place for sea turtles to lay their eggs. Matapalo is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the tourist hotspots. Here, the crowds are unknown and you can experience the true meaning of peace and relaxation. Thanks to our central location, Matapalo is an excellent starting point for day trips along the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. From Manuel Antonio to Corcovado National Park and the lively surfing town of Dominical, everything is within easy reach. Even inland destinations such as the Nauyaca waterfalls and Chirripó National Park are within easy reach from here. Although Matapalo has retained its original charm, we still offer you plenty of dining options, including four restaurants and several "sodas" (local snack bars). Our central location means you can easily walk to two restaurants and a small supermarket, while the other restaurants and sodas are within 1.2 kilometres of the village. We recommend travelling by rental car, as there are no ATMs, taxis or nearby bus stops (1.3 km away) in Matapalo. Despite its remoteness, more and more tourists travelling the country by bus have recently found their way here to experience the beauty of our tranquil beach. Matapalo is also a real insider tip for surfers. While the line-up in Dominical gets more and more crowded when the waves are good, you will still find unspoilt surf spots in Matapalo.
