Aves de Tierras Altas sits on a 10 acre property at the elevation of around 2500 ft msl on the north slope of the Tenorio Volcano, at 8.6 miles to the park entry at Estación El Pilón. Recovering a rain forest is a slow but beautiful process. Tierras Altas is about half native cloud forest and half botanic garden after 20 years of active recovery from the clear cutting and overgrazing. Footpaths wind their way throughout the property. The two very different habitats offer space for many birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles who each find their own niche. As these animals are wild, we ask our guests to maintain a respectful distance.
