My name is René Suter. The first time I traveled through South America, back in 1987, I discovered a place that truly captured my heart: San Agustín. Its magic, its people, and its ancestral energy touched me so deeply that, in 1994, I left my life in Switzerland to make this charming village my new home. Over time—and with great passion—I began to bring a dream to life: Finca Ecológica El Maco. Stone by stone, with deep respect for nature and the local culture, I built this space for travelers who, like me, seek more than just a place to stay… they seek connection, tranquility, and authenticity. Today, El Maco is an ecological haven surrounded by lush gardens and the sounds of nature. It’s a place where you can truly unplug from the world and reconnect with yourself. Finca Ecologica El Maco is a unique combination of farm and hotel, located in San Agustin Colombia (1700 m a.s.). Staying with us, you will live in unique ecological cabins and you'll be part of our little farm with its own cows, chickens and dogs. If you wish, you may cook by yourself (we sell our ecological products such as yogurt, milk and bread to our guests for little money and we also have a small guest-kitchen) or you may enjoy our specialities in our restaurant.

San Agustin is famous for it's archaeological park, one of the most important archaeological sites of the continent and UNESCO world heritage. The region was inhabited by a mysterious civilisation which left behind several hundred freestanding monumental statues carved in stone, as well as a number of tombs. This as well as the beauty of the unspoiled vegetation, caused by the mild subtropical mountain climat, attracts travellers from all over the world. Be it riding horses, trekking, river-rafting or archaeology, San Agustin is one of Colombia's best adventure destinations. By the way: Colombia´s best coffee is grown in San Agustin and served in El Maco for free!
