According to Chilean tax law, all Chilean citizens and foreign residents must pay a 19% VAT (Value Added Tax).
This surcharge can only be avoided for FOREIGNERS when payment is made exclusively in USD (US dollars) IN CASH (damaged bills are not accepted) and a valid passport and immigration card are presented.
