Reconnect with nature at this unforgettable escape. The Pocket Getaway is a new listing in the Slocan Valley and can be your home away from home, providing all the comforts you need for a vacation or work-retreat. This beautiful tiny house has a large private yard with fabulous views of the surrounding forest and hills. It is located at Big Calm, an emerging tiny homesteads community, mid-way between Winlaw and Slocan. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to explore tiny living!
Big Calm is a premium, permaculture-guided tiny homesteads community retreat for remote digital workers, located in BC's beautiful Kootenays.
Your hosts are Big Calm's founders, Abby and Steve, a loving, middle-aged, ex-urban couple who works online, enjoys nature, and loves authentic travel.
We live on-site and are happy to show you around our dream property, chat your ear off about permaculture, or leave you to relax in solitude – as you wish.
We are happy to meet you in person upon arrival or during your stay if you'd like, however we understand that many people come here for a quiet and private getaway and we do not want to intrude.
We live in a small barn-loft on the Big Calm property, a 1 minute walk down the path. You can always contact us by text or come knock on our door if you need some assistance.
The Slocan Valley is an inland temperate rainforest, beloved for its natural beauty. It is nearby the charming city of Nelson and is home to many unique rural communities and villages with interesting cafes, markets, gift shops, museums, restaurants, outdoor adventure opportunities, artisans and more.
Having your own vehicle is the best way to explore long distances in the Slocan Valley and neighbouring communities.
There is a bus network that connects villages in the valley with bigger towns like Nelson and Castlegar. Visit the BC Transit website for up-to-date bus schedules.
