Beautifully presented, modern and very comfortable cabin with amazing views from every angle- we woke up to sunrise over the mountains. After 10 days camping, we needed comfort and respite and the first thing we did was use the outdoor bath-...

Maydena Alpine Retreat is a boutique, adults-only luxury cabin designed exclusively for couples seeking quiet comfort and connection to nature. Set on 1.7 acres of park-like grounds with a forest backdrop and sweeping mountain views, the retreat offers refined interiors, curated amenities and beautiful indoor–outdoor living. The bedroom features a sumptuous king four-poster bed dressed in premium linens, inviting long, restful sleep-ins and slow mornings. Large picture windows frame the ever-changing light across the gardens, forest and the mountain peaks of Mount Field. A cosy leather sofa and wool rugs create a warm space to unwind, with panoramic windows opening the living room to the surrounding landscape. A large covered deck extends the living area outdoors, complete with a deep outdoor bath, lounge chairs, dining setting and BBQ all overlooking the forest and mountain ranges — an ideal place to relax after a day of exploring. Adirondack chairs in the garden offer front-row seats to sunsets, shifting mountain colours and Tasmania’s expansive southern sky. The kitchenette includes a stone benchtop, induction cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and coffee pod machine, making it easy to settle in for slow meals and simple comforts. The spacious ensuite features a dual-head shower with a rainfall option, heated tile floors, eco toiletries and a heated towel rail for extra indulgence and warmth. Thoughtful details, soft dimmable lighting and natural textures throughout the cabin create a sense of calm, making this retreat perfect for romantic escapes, special celebrations or restful time away in Tasmania’s south-west wilderness.
Jo has been very fortunate to host unique guest accommodation for over seven years now, following a long corporate career with multinationals and time spent living and working in Australia, the USA and Asia. She loves nature, our native wildlife and has a special interest in wellness and natural health. These days, life is a little quieter and shared with her partner and very cute pup — their last “child” still at home. Jo genuinely enjoys creating welcoming, thoughtful spaces for guests to unwind and feel at ease.
Maydena Alpine Retreat is ideally located for exploring some of Tasmania’s most remarkable wilderness areas and unique attractions. Just minutes away is Mount Field National Park, offering two distinct landscapes: • The lower levels feature Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls and lush rainforest walks suitable for all fitness levels. • The upper alpine region showcases glacial lakes, cushion plants, snowgum woodlands and dramatic mountain scenery along the Tarn Shelf and Lake Dobson. Nearby, the Styx Valley is home to towering Eucalyptus regnans — some of the tallest flowering plants on Earth. Visitors can explore the Tall Trees boardwalk or follow the tranquil Styx River Walk, a short trail lined with ferns, fungi and moss-draped forest. Further west, the drives to Lake Pedder and the Gordon Dam reveal sweeping views of Tasmania’s rugged south-west landscapes. The Gordon Dam, one of the tallest in Australia, offers breathtaking vistas across the gorge and the vast waters of Lake Gordon. For adventure seekers, Maydena Bike Park provides world-class downhill mountain biking with trails for all skill levels. Those looking for a quieter encounter with nature can enjoy Tassie Bound Adventure Tours, including the popular “Paddle with the Platypus” kayak experience — a chance to see wildlife along serene inland waterways. Other activities in the region include the Derwent Valley Rail Track Riders, waterfalls, forest walks and scenic drives that highlight Tasmania’s rare old-growth forests and dramatic mountain landscapes. Whether guests are seeking adventure, nature, photography or simply a peaceful escape, Maydena offers countless ways to explore, unwind and connect with the beauty of Tasmania’s wilderness.
