Karumba has a number of attractions including a warm and welcoming small community located where the outback truly does meet the sea with the Norman River on our door step we can walk a few 100 metres to the mouth of this river where it meets the waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Recreational fishing is a big part of the attraction for many, however also the bird and animal life, special 1 tide a day marine environment and just the relaxed laid back nature. The newly opened Les Wilson Barramundi Discovery Centre is a must for all visitors - all ages. The commercial fishing industry is one of the main stays and provides the opportunity for delicious local seafood - Barramundi, King Threadfin, Mackerel, Banana - Endeavour and Tiger prawn seasonally and of course mouth watering Gulf mud-crab and more... Karumba is a small community with a big heart and over the years has been the top fundraiser for the Cuppa for Cancer in Queensland - not bad for a town of some 500 residents. Other unique facts - the Gulf is also only 1 of 2 places in the world to annually see cloud formations known as Morning Glory clouds mainly August-November and the unusual 1 tide per day. There's a lot to find out about this area...
