So much more than a hostel: a real family homestay experience, with a hug! Stefano and Pedro are wonderful hosts, I feel sheepish about not spending enough time in the garden relaxing and conversing - was too busy running around the island! The hostel is on a quiet street in the centre of Madalena, with stunning views over the Pico mountain. Rooms are spacious, each bed is curtained off for privacy, equipped with a power socket, a lamp and a fan, nice firm mattress. All communal areas are clean, and the garden is just awesome! You get a choice of cats to cuddle, and a dog :) The shared kitchen has everything you need for cooking or storing food items. Also, if you have an early start - like, climbing the mountain,- you can have tea, cereal, yoghurt and jam on toast - before the official breakfast time, just tidy up after yourself - but you'll miss the pancakes..... Definitely a hostel-home experience that I recommend and that is firmly on my re-visit bucket list!

The rooms in the hostel are fitted with a coffee machine. Jardim das Camélias features some rooms that have mountain views, and rooms come with a private bathroom with a shower. At the accommodation the rooms are equipped with air conditioning and a flat-screen TV. Jardim das Camelias is perfectly located in Madalena (many restaurants close by, walking distance) and we were lucky to get the room with mountain view so we woke up each morning seeing Pico. The kitchen was very well equipped, everything was very clean and the house was renovated in a very nice way. Checking in and out and communication with the owners were very smooth, they were also extremely helpful and friendly. Totally recommend Jardim das Camelias, 10/10!

The Moradia Familiar NovaVista - T3 also offers special discounts in local restaurants, where guests can taste local flavours. Excellent breakfast, many options. Also loved the location and that there was a pool which my grandson used almost everyday. The apartment was clean and towels were changed everyday. Any issues were quickly dealt with.
