Surrounded by lovely greenery in the heart of vibrant Keswick centre, YHA Keswick is just a 10-minute walk from Lake Derwentwater. It features a restaurant and self-catering kitchen.

Wi-Fi access is available, along with luggage storage. The majority of rooms contain bunk beds. The people at the front desk were incredibly friendly and helpful. Given how many people on a floor were sharing the showers and toilets, they were very clean and I appreciated that they were separate and individual. The drying room was very helpful too! The breakfast options were of good value. As others mention, the river sounds outside the window were lovely to fall asleep to.

Ambleside village is a 10-minute walk from the YHA hostel. It has a selection of quaint tea rooms, artisan shops and country pubs. Best hostel I stayed in during my monthlong trip to the UK!

Located in the market town of Keswick in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Denton House Hostel is just a 5-minute stroll from Keswick Leisure Centre. With free WiFi and free parking, Keswick Museum and Art Gallery and Cumberland Pencil Museum are also less than a mile away. I liked how quiet it was even when a team of football boys stayed overnight. There are plenty of clean toilets and showers. The lounge with TV was a great space to relax and catch up with other travelers. Socks & T’s dried quickly in the spacious drying room. There is a lovely private back area for outdoor sitting. The staff were all exceptional. I really like Denton, do would you.

Set within the beautiful Lakeland village of Grasmere, this Victorian mansion features fabulous views of the surrounding fells and valleys. Guests can enjoy the restaurant and relaxing TV lounge.

The majority of rooms at YHA Grasmere’s contain bunk beds. Guests are able to relax in spacious, lovely grounds, whilst there is also a games room and Wi-Fi access. Honestly my kids were most nervous about staying in a hostel, but we had the most fun from our entire stay (road-tripping throughout the UK). The kitchen was a relief—getting dinner after a long day, or options for full breakfast the next morning were awesome. We spent a lot of time in the game room—and ended up having to buy Clue after we returned home because it was so much fun to just have that time…

Located in Thirlmere, within 11 km of Derwentwater Lake and 26 km of Buttermere, Fisher-gill Camping Barn provides accommodation with a terrace and as well as free private parking for guests who drive. The property is set 33 km from Askham Hall, 33 km from Lake Windermere and 17 km from Cat Bells. The property is non-smoking and is situated 27 km from World of Beatrix Potter.

The rooms in the hostel are fitted with a kettle. Guest rooms at Fisher-gill Camping Barn are equipped with a shared bathroom equipped with a shower. We were very lucky that Jean (who runs the camping barn) was nearby on-site throughout our stay, and she lit the woodburner for us every afternoon, taking the chill off for our return from walks during the freezing weather we have had during Storm Bert. (Sometimes Jean has to stay at her family's other farm elsewhere, and when that happens you have to fend for yourselves more). The beds were very comfortable, there were quilts and hot water bottles to supplement our sleeping bags, and the kitchen was adequately equipped for us to do basic catering for ourselves throughout our stay. The shower takes either £1 or 5x20ps and gives loads of time. There was also a wall-mounted fan-heater which worked on £1 coins but we didn't use that. There's little to no phone reception. The Stagecoach bus 555 runs past very regularly, so very easy access by public transport.
