While hiking the GR10, I had the pleasure of discovering a truly special place just 2km easy walk from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, directly on the GR10 trail, in the peaceful village of Çaro. This gîte d’étape is an absolute hidden gem — a beautiful, spacious house dating back to the 1400s, lovingly maintained and full of authentic charm.
The house itself is spotless and steeped in history, offering both comfort and character. Patrick, the host, is warm and welcoming. If you're interested, he's happy to share stories about the house and the region — his passion and hospitality really make the experience memorable.
The homemade dinner and breakfast were delicious. After a long day of walking, it was the perfect place to rest and recharge in calm, natural surroundings.
If you're looking for something more authentic than the often busy Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, this place is absolutely worth staying at.

The best hostel I have ever stayed in! Smooth check-in/check-out, cozy and clean room, personal locker for free, comfortable bed, amazing top floor terrace. The location is perfect — just 7 mins away from the central station. I enjoyed my stay a lot and hope to come back!
Gorgeous little room, I felt very safe as a solo female traveller. The sauna was a lovely bonus!! Great location, so quick and easy to get the train into the centre, or you can walk!
Absolutely beautiful home stay. Stunning rooms and bathroom..I felt like I was in a suite in a luxurious hotel. Huge and spectacular bathroom, bedroom and lovely sitting area with a view of the terrace and local streets. Breakfast was divine and prepared to your tastes each day. 15-minute safe and easy walk into town. Bus around the corner as well although we were happy to walk. Convenient street parking but be sure to organise cheaper rate with owners in advance. Room 'serviced' daily which was lovely and unexpected.
A very nice and tidy hostel in the very middle of the city of Bordeaux. At the same time very silent. It is accessible with any luggage you have (there is a lift to each floor). Beds are very cosy and provide privacy (in spite of being a hostel) - each bed has a courtain with own lamp. Breakfast is very cheap and it is enough to start a day. Restaurant is on the first floor.
Cheap and cheerful option on the outskirts of Bordeaux, very close to tram line for a 20 min ride into city centre. Room large, clean and comfortable. Beds excellent. Right opposite retail park for shopping, every essential catered for, but not very picturesque. Not important for a one night stay, however. Car park directly beneath hotel is only 18 euro for 24 hours and has a lift straight up to the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel for those on a budget
Great hostel, almost felt like a hotel at times (apart from the dormitory aspect of course). The rooms were well fitted out with huge lockers, privacy curtains, power sockets and separate toilet and shower. The bar downstairs was good for happy hour and the location is right near a lovely food market which is great if one’s budget allows. The staff also allowed me to stay an extra night in my original bed after my flight got cancelled which was amazing.
Central Hostel in Bordeaux was fantastic! The location was top-notch - buzzing even at midnight, and it felt safe, even for a solo female traveler. Tram stops were nearby and getting here from the airport was a breeze. Bonus points for being close to supermarkets, a pharmacy, and lots of cool places to visit. The receptionist was really friendly, and the facilities were great. But the best part? The comfy beds in the great bedrooms. This is the best hostel I've stayed in Bordeaux.
