The owner was available and fixed a utility plug and upgraded to new our electric water kettle very quickly for our suite. He upgraded our room to a cozy upstairs 2 bed with a private bathroom, large open window and view of the Fire department for a very reasonable price. We stayed several weeks and he also negotiated basically the best value for our money stay of our entire North and South Island 3 month tour, which finished up in Paihia. Their location was very convenient to all sights and restaurants, food supermarket which worked for us because we prefer simple cooked meals easily done in their huge kitchen downstairs. We were trying to find a home to purchase in Kerikeri which we actually accomplished while staying at this lodge, the owner was thrilled for us once he realized we had lived on a sailboat for the past 12 years as sustainable lifestylers ready for a serious change. We made it to our house location purchase from Centabay lodge I'm a short time enough to seal the deal from other bidders wanting this new home as well, Simon Hart with Barfoot & Thompson realty was thei vendors realtor who also helped us manage this purchase, highly recommended as well. A great stay for us here, much appreciated.

Very private, comfortable, and well-equipped studio cottage (Doolittle) set within a working organic fruit orchard. Orange trees in full bloom were within feet of the patio. The smell was intoxicating and the hosts provided fresh fruit from the orchard in the cottage and a juicer was present if you wished to make fresh-squeezed OJ. The hosts put together a very nice information book, with useful information about both the cottage and local restaurants, wineries, sights, and other attractions. The cottage was within easy driving distance of Kerikeri and Paihia/Bay of Islands.

Very quiet location, essentially in the heart of Paihia but not busy at all. Clientele of all ages not just young backpackers. Wooden bunk beds meant no squeaking beds when moving. 12pm check-in rather than usual 3pm

Centabay was my favourite hostel that I stayed at in New Zealand!!! I loved the vibrant atmosphere, the lovely backpacker-staff and the wonderful manager who was always a joy to chat with. The prices are incredibly reasonable for a place in the middle of Paihia, and you can tell the manager isn't in it for the profit - she genuinely wants to help travellers have the best experience possible. The hot tub worked well and was always great to use. The hammocks and tropical garden are another bonus. I could go on and on!

So clean Great facilities The view from the kitchen - absolutely stunning The staff were top notch (especially Scott) !! He always went the extra mile, nothing was ever too much hassle, and I loved how he helped organise socials with other travellers in the hostel. This is genuinely so appreciated when you’re travelling solo, it made meeting people so much easier and gave the hostel a really nice welcoming and community vibe - couldn’t recommend here any higher <3

This is the best hostel I've stayed at in New Zealand so far!!! The location was amazing. It is right in the centre of Paihia, surrounded by restaurants and shops. The lounge was my favourite. It overlooked the sea and was well decorated. It is a cosy place to unwind at the end of the day. The whole place was also exceptionally clean. Plus, when I visited, the all-female staff were super lovely and made a female solo traveller like me feel very comfortable indeed.

Very kind owner. Genuine kind and friendly. He takes pride of the place and their customers. Location, it is right in the middle of the town, just 2min walking from the bus stop/station and the wharf to get the ferry to Russell. Also, so convenient located near shops, restaurants, cafes, etc. Price, it was cheap. It is safe for solo travellers A bath tub outdoors and a friendly environment, couches and TV next to the kitchen, where you can interact with other travellers
