Staff is incredibly friendly (the guy at the front desk is a future mr. Belize contender)! The property is clean and a good place to stop off before catching the ferry.

Elmar Hostel is THE place to stay in Bacalar ! Everything was just perfect, you get free breakfast, free bikes, free kayak, free paddle boards and FREE LAUNDRY ! The aircon in the dorms works perfectly, everything is new, curtains for privacy, body soap and shampoo in the showers, the kitchen is well equipped. The vibe is so chill, and the people working there were a huge bonus to my stay. Hann, Guss and Giovanni were just adorable, and will go out of their way to help you out and make you feel at home. And the hostel is just 5 minutes walk from a free pier to the lagoon. Honestly the best hostel I stayed in my 10 years of travel !

The family feel, super friendly and sociable. The place itself was also lovely and breezy. Delaite went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and content. From booking a taxi, giving me a pep talk when I felt sad, inviting me to a local street party, and generally always being there with an open ear. Could have made h this my home in all honesty! Thank you so so much!

We absolutely loved our stay here at Ukayil, the room was MASSIVE and very comfortable with all amenities you need, even a coffee maker, plates and cutlery. The A/C was amazing, the room is decorated nice, check-in was a breeze with little lock-boxes to collect keys after hours. The bathroom and shower were very good too and there was lots of space to hang clothes inside and also a washing line outside too. The location was quite good too, it's about 15 minutes to walk into the centre from here, which is not bad, and you definitely don't need a taxi to the centre or to the boat jetties or free municipal swimming area - they are all walkable. But it may be a bit far for some - but taxis are cheap if you need them. The taxi to the ADO station from here was ~mx$40. The host was also very helpful and nice, bringing us blankets when we first checked in, and then helping us arrange a taxi to the ADO station to leave on the last day. Overall, this property is probably the best value for money place we've stayed in this whole trip through Mexico, given the comfort and size of the room, walking distance to centre and great price, we wouldn't hesitate to book here again. Thanks for having us!!

Friendly reception and staff, allowing storage of backpacks if arriving early. A proper backpacker place with good vibe, interesting people and good advice available for forward transport. Good internet and quiet at night. Incredibly cheap beer with a nice rooftop to enjoy it on. Good location. Definitely return on way back.

Kind, helpful staff | great location, just a few blocks from the pier (water taxi from Belize) | clean and quiet | solid WiFi | hot shower and good water pressure, soap dispenser | filtered water and coffee provided | good-sized lockers provided | didn't have pesos at check-in (banks were closed); allowed to pay next day after banks opened (greatly appreciated) | dorm room was air conditioned at night (9pm - 9am) | good mattress, slept well | nice guests, good hostel vibe |
