MalaysiaThe couple who run this guesthouse are very nice and welcoming. Everything is very clean. My single room had comfortable bed and a desk; bath is down the hall. The optional Japanese breakfast is highly recommended--tasty and filling. For other meals guests use microwave and hot-water kettle to fix their own food. Quiet location with the gentle sound of the surf.
I am on a bicycle ride and found the location ideal: A day's ride from Amami via Route 81, then a loop to Kasarizaka Lighthouse at northern end of island, then a ride south on Route 58.

The property itself was amazing! There is a lovely common space where you can cook and hang out! The beach right down the street is beautiful and empty and you can rent so many different water activities!
Only thing: restaurants around the place are often closed or far away, you can take the bus there (which is going every half an hour until ~19:00) or make sure you have at least something you can eat ready at the hostel so in case you don't find something you are settled. There is a convenience store right next to the hostel.
