Spacious, had bamboo walls between beds and curtains. You even get your own small table and place to hang clothes. Everything was clean and felt welcomed at all times.

Dary’s guesthouse is a fantastic place to stay. It’s a modern building constructed in 2023, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable. The host, Dary, is the kindest person you’ll ever meet. She goes above and beyond to make her guests happy. We had many fascinating conversations with her and learned a wealth of information about Cambodia, Kratie, and herself. I ate a couple of times at the guesthouse and the food is fresh and tastes very nice. The guesthouse is located a bit further away from the city center (15-30min). However, the walk along the Mekong is very pleasant. Alternatively, you can rent bikes at the guesthouse or order a TukTuk (around 2$).

To stay there is a real opportunity to learn about the rural Cambodia, its present and past, from the inside. It's even more complete if you take the local tour with Sok as we did. Sok is one of the kindest, most generous and helpful persons we have ever meet. He doesn't just play his role of host with excellence, but he also truly cares about everyone he is in contact with. The room is basic but clean, as well as the shared bathroom. Next to the house there is a daily market. To walk around it is also a good opportunity to see the people in their daily activities, but it starts really early so earplugs are advised if you wanna sleep after 5 am. The food is also really delicious and cheap.

The central location in the heart of the market was a lovely experience - being able to watch the locals going about their daily lives from the balcony and rooftop terrace was fascinating. The opportunity to stroll through the market and town was a highlight of our trip to Kratie. The rooms in the hotel were spotlessly clean and spacious. Alex was a great host and entertained us with his amusing stories as we chatted in the rooftop bar and restaurant. This is a lovely spot to watch the town at night and even if you’re not staying at Privada Lodge it’s well worth a visit.

They even lent me a bike free of charge to explore the city and shared delicious mangoes fresh from their own garden. If you're looking not just for a place to stay, but a true home away from home, this is it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this special experience – I will definitely return.
