Our hosts were very caring, offering us tea or coffee in the evening. If you needed a tuk tuk to take you a kilometre or two from the villa, it was free service. The breakfast was a wonderful variety and scrumptious. The room was immaculately clean and had air-con.The short cut to the beach, down an alley and across the railway lines, had us there in 5 minutes. If you get the opportunity, drop in to Tuna Turner, where you can use their pool and sunbeds if you spend 5000slr. They even supply pool towels.

Summary Our stay at Happy Man Village was a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and heartwarming hospitality. The attentive staff and beautiful surroundings made this an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to return to this hidden gem! Our recent stay at Happy Man Village was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff provided hospitality from the heart—always smiling, receptive, and genuinely anticipative of our needs. Their warmth made us feel welcomed and comfortable throughout our entire stay. Room: The spacious and clean room featured a modern outdoor bathroom that added to the charm. Being secluded, with a good distance from the next cabana, we enjoyed the serenity and had the pleasure of observing the local wildlife in nature. Outdoors: This property truly allows you to disconnect. It is peaceful, with a beautiful garden and pool, and is situated far enough from the main street that we couldn’t hear any noise. Yet, we were close enough to the beach to enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves, which were just a ten-minute walk away. Services: Happy Man Village offers a complimentary drop-off and pick-up service to beaches and restaurants via tuk-tuk. We were fortunate to be escorted to a temple where a monk provided thoughtful explanations about the local culture. Additionally, they offer laundry services (for a fee) and kindly arranged a massage for us on the property (also for a fee). We highly recommend the boat tour along the river or lake, where you can immerse yourself in the local jungle and see the train tracks washed away by the 2004 tsunami. Our suggestion is to do it at sunset, so you can see the birds returning home to roost. Food: Before our last night, we took a cooking class with the chef in the kitchen, which was a delightful and fun experience. We had a great exchange while learning the secrets of Sri Lankan curry. The dinner at the restaurant on the second evening was equally delicious!

If you are looking for accommodation with nice vibes, friendly hosts and good food, look no further. Free House is perfect. My partner and I have been travelling for 8 months and this accommodation has been a highlight for us. I highly recommend getting the breakfast. It’s a generous Sri Lankan style breakfast and we enjoyed learning about how everything is cooked. There is also a small patisserie out the front serving a selection of baked goods that we enjoyed. The hosts are both very talented when it comes to making food. The room was perfect, wifi worked well, good air con and a comfortable bed. Book now!

Beautiful, calm, quiet, peaceful place to stay. An absolute steal at the price point, the room was stunning. So much space, insansely comfortable bed with really good mosquito net. The bathroom was clean, shower pressure amazing and hot. Couldn’t recommend more.

This property was a real oasis on the other side of the railway track. It was luxurious, had lovely decor, had a good pool, had great hosts and was excellent value. The breakfasts were fantastic and our host Nelson cooked us 2 delicious meals on our 2 nights there - the food was so good that we just didn’t want to eat anywhere else. Right up there with all the places we stayed in during our Sri Lankan holiday. A great find!

Such a beautiful home right on the river. The family who runs this homestay are incredibly kind and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The daily breakfast was plentiful and delicious, consisting of omelettes, bread, fruit, fresh juice and tea or coffee. The balcony was a beautiful place to watch the sunset and the room included access to a little kitchen with a kettle so we could make our own pots of tea and coffee. It was the perfect place to rest and explore Bentota.

Lovely private home stay with a lovely host. Super located close to the beach and some nice restaurants (go to Bamboo‘s Garden). The room has a big bed and everything you need.

We liked everything. Room was clean and tidy as shown in pics. Initially had booked this stay for one night but we extended our stay for one more night as we liked the home stay. We are pure vegiterian and it was very difficult for us to find veg restaurants in srilanka. And finally we got authentic and very tasty veg food in this stay. Owner is very cooperative. This was our bestest stay in our 8 days srilanka trip.
