Satoru was super forthcoming with recommendations on where to go and what to eat. Everything hit the mark. The place was easy to find (even in total darkness), and is in a beautiful town Takamori from where you can see the mountains. Bonus points for the cute knick knacks and the lovely woodsy scent of the home.

I really enjoyed my stay, it was a completely different experience than other places I've stayed in Japan. The area has a slightly spooky, Alabama-esque feel. Maybe it was becouse of the goat outside my window, maybe the American-style buildings, or maybe, aside from meeting the lovely owners once at check-in, I didn't see a single person during my one-night stay. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked flawlessly (as did the Wi-Fi) a big plus for the fridge in the room (there are no shops at the area, I recommend buying some sandwiches etc earlier). It was the cheapest option I could find in the area, a bit pricey for the standard, but considering the spooky vibe (which I liked), I can't really complain. My destination was the Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, and it was a 30-minute walk. It's about an hour's walk from the train station. It's also a 15-minute walk from the coolest old-school samurai-style restaurant I've ever been to.

The accommodation is a very big tradition Japanese house. The host is very friendly and interesting. You may request the host to prepare (DIY) BBQ for dinner. It is delicious and interesting, highly recommended. They heat the volcano stone to cook the BBQ.

The omusubi guesthouse is a perfect destination if you want to explore Kyushu! We enjoyed the shared spaces and sleeping on the tatami mats. Rie was really friendly and helpful, she made a booking for us at the local restaurant and helped when I got sick. The house has a relaxed atmosphere and you can play Mario on a vintage Nintendo.

Yoshi was super friendly and helpful in giving tips and recommendations on places to eat, visit etc. Upon arrival I was given tea, a handmade map and a little lottery snack. I didn't win but was still gifted a snack bag. Sleeping area is upstairs in the building next door to the caravan and tent pictured. The place felt homey with all the little touches and details. I only stayed one night here but will recommend this place for those who want to experience living in ASO.
