Old traditional house. A charming house, beautiful and in a very quiet area. Fresh air and pure water. Hiro, the host, and his assistant Marie (a small gentle dog) are very kind. Hiro gave us some nice tips and restaurant recommendations. We felt right at home.

The whole accommodation is very nice. The beds were super comfy and were facing a big window allowing lots of sunlight. The owner is really friendly and speaks very good English, he allowed us to use the piano downstairs which was amazing. The location is good and easy to get to the train to visit the tourist part of Nikko. The kitchen is well equipped and the whole place is very clean. We loved the snacks provided for everyone. There are great cafe/restaurants nearby and a big supermarket all within walking distance. I recommend going to a breakfast cafe called Morinoshizuku!

The owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. Cooked us a delicious breakfast even though it wasn’t included in the price and drove us to the station (only 5 minutes walking) so we could definitely catch the bus/train. Very clean house, comfortable futon beds and working air conditioning. All in all we had a fantastic stay at an authentic Japanese home and can only recommend Arai house. If we ever have the chance to come back to Nikko we would definitely stay here again

Mariko-san was an extremely great host! she was super helpful in explaining and recommending things to do and visit in Nikko and even provided a sumptuous breakfast for us! location was perfect as well and it was a great experience!

Great hosts who went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable. Spotless house, quiet location, beautiful touches to make it feel homely, an awesome bath that stays hot and fills automatically- the best bath I have ever had! Hosts had information including timetables for buses, shows at edo wonderland at their finger tips. Walking distance - 5mins to bus stop and only 10mins tops to train station. Host also took us to the train station in their private car - very friendly, polite and helpful. Loved our stay and wish we stayed longer.
