Not your typical hostel or Airbnb – this is an old, traditional Japanese house situated along the main street in Fujiyoshida, just over 1 km away from Fujisan train station. Renting a car or bicycle is recommended for getting around. I arrived in the early morning after hiking Mt. Fuji, only to realize that check-in time is at 3 pm – my mistake. The house is managed by a son and his mother, who can communicate only in limited English. However, we managed to discuss my situation, and they allowed me to return at 1 pm for an early check-in. The entire property exudes a sense of history, and the summit of Mt. Fuji can be fully seen from the window of my tatami room (quadruple room), with its peak illuminated by the rising sun at around 5 am – a truly surreal experience.

We really like the little village that the property is located, it is not in the city centre not at a very touristy place. The host and hostess are very warm and welcoming. The host knew the perfect spot for viewing Mount Fuji. We especially loved the private onsen bath.

Everything was amazing. It was clean, cozy, warm, traditional, great location, well maintained, and the hosts are lovely. The toilets and shower are very clean and comfortable, and the beds are cozy. I highly recommend this place and I’ll definitely be coming back
