Fantastic location, right on Uwanodai slope - actual ski-in ski-out. Host was extremely friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was great and good value. Nice draught beer! Shower in room with a shared hot bath that could be booked for free. There's a ski/boot room in the basement that opens onto the slope. The decor is a bit dated but in a very charming way.

Everything very clean. Very large room for single or 2 persons, can probably fit a whole family. Keiko was super nice and helpful and had great suggestions for restaurants. There’s just a lot of attention to every detail overall. The toilets even had the highest quality toilet paper I’ve ever seen in Japan😀 The price in summer/off season was very fair. There is no AC but it should unusually not be needed. Even when it was 37 degree in Tokyo it was only 25 in Zao onsen.

Lovely apartment. Met at the door by the host who was very responsive to messages. Great space upstairs but completely separate from hosts home on the ground floor. This is a beautifully preserved old house, yet equipped with modern air conditioning, bathroom, and kitchen facilities. The space is clean, spacious, and comfortable, with a garden and a traditional storehouse. It’s not suitable for a rushed one-night stay — ideally, you should spend 2 to 3 days here to truly experience the architecture and lifestyle of the old house. The building itself is of historical value, and its previous owners have interesting stories. Simply put, you can think of this place as a small museum.
