I usually don't write any reviews unless the place to stay is exceptionally good, which is the case for this guesthouse. It is in a calm and quiet neighborhood within a walking distance to Gion and Kiyomizu-dera. I mostly enjoyed the friendliness and helpfulness of staff that speaks very well in English, and a very cozy room with Japanese style interior. Lastly, for a small extra price you can get an amazing Japanese breakfast made for you. I would definitely like to come back here!

Very good place, free luggage storage even after check out. We loved our stay here, would definitely recommend! We are coming back as soon as possible.

I only stayed here for 2 nights, but I can say that I felt welcome. The atmosphere in the hotel is very pleasant, warm... I had a room for 4 people, in which I benefited from a very well-optimized space. You can choose between Japanese and Western breakfast. And the neighborhood where it is located is a pleasant area. It's a shame that not everyone in the group knew how to ride a bike and we couldn't benefit from the hotel's bikes...

The people i've met in Kokonoe Machiya. It's simply a place where you get the experience to meet new people and peer into their lives, given the chance. I've been lucky to meet Emily, Blanca, Eze, Sato-san, Chen and especially Tony, I won't ever forget this experience i've had during my stay. I've made a lot of good memories here, and I'll be visiting again for sure during my next stay in Kyoto ! I wish Tony, his wife, and everyone else i met here the best that I can wish for in life, and I look forward to meeting you guys again, hopefully soon !

Everything was perfect! The location is right near many markets, and there were so many nice little details or small things they had that were convenient

Staying in this house was a great experience. The house was lovely, in a very central and beautiful location and had all you needed. Perfect place for a full Kyoto experience.

Where do I begin? This property is utterly charming. The owners are a family of true values. They are super friendly and make your stay so special. The food that we were served was the best that we have eaten in our 3 weeks of traveling in Japan. As well as being very tasty they were keen to help you understand what we were eating and traditions behind it. It is just opposite the ferry terminal. Once the tourists had left the island we could wander the streets in peace and quiet and see the shrine beautifully lit at night. We would highly recommend staying g the night here rather than a day trip from Hiroshima.
