hosted by a lovely couple. also if you not speak japanese there is no problem to make things happen, super helpful and supportive. Now my second time and my go for place to stay on this beautiful island. i enjoy the tatami room, but also there is one room with a western bed. a kitchen with everything what is needed to prepare food and tea / coffee. I hope you enjoy this place like I do.

Satomi was an incredible host and very helpful throughout the stay. She helped me plan all my hikes and because of her I managed to do the 3 main hikes on the island in my 3 days on Yakushima. I have never had a greater host at a guesthouse. The building has a very fun and quirky interior, it really feels like you are staying in Japanese house. The bed was comfortable enough for me.

The hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere from the moment I arrived. The traditional Japanese room was clean and peaceful, and the stone bath was a thoughtful and relaxing touch. I especially loved the delicious homemade breakfast, which was served with jazz music playing softly in the background such a serene way to start the day. I also appreciated the host’s willingness to chat and connect, even using a translation app to bridge the language gap.

The hosts were a family of hospitable, kind, and humourous people! Rika was so generous and gave us a lift to Ohama beach. We rented snorkels for 400 yen from them as well, which was awesome. The building and rooms seem newly built and the beds are super comfortable and clean, and I love the star cutouts. The balconies have a cute view of forest and town.

My familiy and I had an unforgettable stay at "Shallman". We can totally recommend this acommodation when you come to amazing Amami-Oshima. The host is super kind and helpful. He actually isn't just a host, but a tour-guide and caregiver all in one. The house is approximately 20 minutes drive from Naze port and Amami main town. It's located in a charming village. There is a nice souvenir shop and another tiny shop. You can find two beautiful beaches in walking distance, around 20 and 30 minutes each. We even saw sea turtles there! Of course, it's nature, so there is no guarantee, but a little chance to see them. Another attraction is the Mangrove Park nearby. In the accomodation you have a room and a toilet on your own, and share bathroom and kitchen with the host. This makes the stay a unique experience as it opens the door for interesting converstions. Thanks to the host we felt as comfortable as at home or more precisely as at the house of a lovely relative. He helped out with everything and cared a lot when one of us got ill. We reached the island by ferry (11 hours at night, with beds) from Kagoshima port. We didn´t have a rental car and still had a wonderful time. It can be helpful though to buy some food in advance, either in a supermarket in Kagoshima or in Naze /Amami main town.
