No words can explain how joyful my stay was. I was in Japan for almost one month, stayed in 7 hotels and Machiya was the only true "Japanese" Home away from Home. My room was spotless, shared bathroom was spotless and the kitchenette was adequate for basic daily needs. The owner was accessible every time I needed her. She had a mobile phone set in the reception ready for any emergencies. I loved the furniture in my room, carefully picked and reflected a lot of history. The books in the common area, the card games provided for a cosy evening in the hotel, I also loved the small beautiful garden and the restaurant recommendations in the room were useful too. I was helped to transfer my luggage to my next destination when I checked out. When I was leaving, I was greeted to the outside door like a family member. I was travelling solo and the warmth of the owner will always be a beautiful memory for Japanese hospitality. She even followed me outside when I took the wrong turn to my bus to the station. At Gao’s, Yoneda and Soku’s warm welcome made us feel like we stayed with a family. Little Gao-chan was an angel, and we couldn’t get enough of him ❤️ Our room was a big 2-floor room with an AC. We were warm and slept well. The futons can be a bit unusual after western beds, but our backs were really happy with the experience and we rested really well. The guest house and the district are very quiet and allow for good rest. The accommodation is in an excellent location if you want to visit places in Kanazawa. You can reach most places by foot easily, and during rainy days you can use bus connections, as the area is well connected. In the end of our stay, our kind hosts gave us handmade gifts, which was incredibly touching.
