Miyajima Guesthouse Mikuniya is a traditional Japanese-style guesthouse located on Miyajima (Itsukushima). It has a beautiful Japanese garden and a large living room, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Our friendly mascot cat will welcome you! Room was massive for one person. Fantastic view of the pagoda (but the main tori gate was not visible). Location is located slightly uphill but still close to the main shopping street and the shrine. The room shares the bathroom and shower with everyone else, but has its own sink so it's more convenient. The shared bathrooms were clean, and there's a shared bath that people can reserve.

Boasting a shared kitchen, this property also welcomes guests with a restaurant and a sun terrace. Featuring family rooms, this property also provides guests with a picnic area. The staff were very friendly. I found the bed comfortable and the whole quest house was very charming. The restaurant attached to the guest house was good and convenient, and the view of the garden from there was lovely. It is two minutes away from Mitaki-dera, which I found to be an underrated beautiful place, now one of my favorite temples I have visited.

Towels and bed linen are available in the guest house. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. Staying in a 100+ year old traditional Japanese home was an amazing experience, and the fact that we had the whole house to yourself made it even better. In addition, the host was so kind and helpful and really went out of his way to make our stay memorable. He gave us great recommendations for dinner and helped us make reservations. The room was very spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and every amenity you could possible need was provided.

It's the perfect destination if you're cycling along the Shimanami Kaido. Youko is an incredible host, warm, welcoming, and exceptionally helpful. She provided excellent recommendations for bike rentals, local restaurants, and activities, and every day left thoughtful notes at reception highlighting events happening in the area. When we accidentally left our backpack (with passports inside!) at the guesthouse, she promptly mailed it to our next destination without hesitation. Our 8-year-old daughter, Alice, loved the play area in the communal dining space, bouncing on the trampoline in the garden, and meeting the resident animals: friendly sheep, two charming cats, and Maroon, the adorable dog. The property itself is spotless. We stayed in one of the Japanese-style rooms, which felt spacious by Japanese standards, and offered spectacular views over the bay. The rooftop terrace was another highlight for us. We'd wholeheartedly recommend staying here, it’s truly a special place.

Fantastic rooms with an excellent view of Onomichi. The rooms were done in traditional Japanese style with futons and tatami mats, which felt authentic. The shared shower and cleaning faciltiies looked fine, even though we didn't use them. The cafe was really nice and the staff there were attentive and gave a thorough overview on arrival.
