Superb Guest House at the Elephantile island in a Nubian village setting, across the Ferry from KFC,10 mts, then 10 mts walk, Modern rooms, very clean, superb garden setting, great wall nubian paintings, magical terrace sit out, all very colourfully lit. since no vehicles of any type, very quiet. big room tastefully furnished, powerfull shower. booked group Van tour with the Guest house for Abu Simbel. Best part of our stay, two dinners & one lunch we had at King Jamaica restaurant, on River, where the jetty lands for the island ie 10 mts walk. superb Nile views, great Fish & succulent beef meals. No alchohol, value for money, great music.

We had such an amazing stay at JJ’s. We originally booked for three days but ended up extending for another three because we loved it so much. JJ and his family/staff are all very kind and friendly — they made us feel so at home in their beautiful slice of the world. Elephantine Island is very relaxed and has a lovely local feel (a very nice change from Aswan city and the rest of Egypt!). That said, you’re only a two-minute ferry from the mainland which was super easy and we went in most nights for dinner. We booked a tour to Abu Simbel through JJ which saved us from having to think about logistics of getting there ourselves 🙌🏼 we ended up being the first group there for the day so got some amazing photos and we’re back in the guesthouse by 1pm. Also the included breakfast was incredibly generous. Everyday we had fresh juice, eggs, bread, salad, cheese, fruit salad, jam & honey. Honestly amazing value and cooked with love. Plus the view from the rooftop (where breakfast is served) is beautiful, looking over the Nile. Our room also had an amazing view of the river. Honestly I can’t rave enough about this place. We feel so happy to have stumbled upon JJ Guesthouse and are leaving with some very special memories ✨🩷

He also let us store our luggage at his place. He took us to see the footprints he and his friends had carved into the rocks when they were kids, as well as the little kitchen where they used to grill fish together. He told us that this was where he grew up and shared the stories of the distant castle with us. The next night, we retraced the path he had shown us. It was a place only the locals would know. Standing in a small shrine, we listened to the distant sounds of cicadas, the flowing river, and the occasional music drifting from a passing sailboat. Looking up at the sky, we spotted Orion. At that moment, I felt a sudden urge to cry—this island had stood quietly through the passage of time. I couldn’t help but wonder: if I returned in ten years, would everything still be the same? We took a photo of him, hoping that one day we’d have the chance to come back. If we could find this place again, it would be a truly magical feeling. In that moment, we became witnesses to time. كان مضيفنا في الجزيرة قد أعد لنا مشروب ترحيب لذيذًا في المساء، وحضّر لنا إفطارات رائعة كل صباح. كما سمح لنا بتخزين أمتعتنا في منزله. أخذنا لرؤية آثار الأقدام التي نحتها هو وأصدقاؤه على الصخور عندما كانوا أطفالًا، وكذلك المطبخ الصغير حيث اعتادوا شواء السمك معًا. أخبرنا أن هذا هو المكان الذي نشأ فيه، وشارك معنا قصص القلعة البعيدة. في الليلة التالية، أعدنا السير في الطريق الذي أرشدنا إليه. كان مكانًا لا يعرفه إلا السكان المحليون.

Excellent location: About 15 - 20mins walk to the temples. There were ATMs and a few shops close by too Comfortable and quiet room: A bit of a rarity in Egypt! Exceptionally friendly host! Ashraf was always on hand to assist, offer advice or just generally check in and make sure that we are okay! Ashraf also connected us with a private driver to handle the connection between Aswan and Abu Simbel.

The house including common areas and the room was very nice, clean, and cozy. Location is just perfect with beautiful view for the corso and the town. The ferry service was excellent, easy to use. Mohammed was very nice, he offered us trips that were well organized, like for example to Abu Simbel and to Philae Temple. The island has a great atmosphere with local shops and restaurants. Better to stay here than on the other side of the river. The Nubian houses were beautiful. We felt the people’s hospitality. If any would like to be immerse in the local culture, this place is perfect for it. We arrived as a couple and we only had great experiences.
