Not in the touristy area, which is good, because ot was quiet and peaceful there, but at the same time it takes about 5-8 minutes to walk to the area with major hotels and the beach. Very convenient location! The room was in a separate little house with the open air roof where you can have a nice time eating your breakfast or just relaxing. Inside, it was nice and clean with all the necessary things: a kettle, a microwave, A/C, a fridge. Perfect for solo travellers like me 💙

Sandanya is a lovely and unique guest house.Impeccably clean,with spacious Japanese style rooms and beautiful ground floor area with amazing collections of Japanese dolls,glasses,shells and so much more..There is a pc corner, too. Regarding travel necessities,whatever you think of-the owner already has it covered.Hygiene sets,maps,bus passes,plenty of fridge/freezer space,nice,fragrant towels..can’t praise this place enough.For western travellers,don’t be put off by shared toilets and bathrooms:all in pristine conditions,even with bath mats changed after every use. The owner speaks English and is very helpful and friendly.Location wise,it’s a literally min away from Sandanbeki cliffs and if you want to go down the hill to some onsen or to Shirahama beach,the bus stop is just next to the house.Walking to Shirahama beach is easy, only takes 20 min,with 2 foot baths along the way. I stayed 4 nights there and loved everything about this guesthouse.

Extremely close to the beach, as well as many restaurants, plus a familymart. There are several onsens in the area too. The whole guesthouse was very comfy and homey. This place is a really affordable and amazing stop for experiencing this resort area without staying at a resort. There is a kitchen area and a small living space downstairs which is great for hanging out and prepping a cheaper meal than going out. I also appreciate that this divides the potentially loud 'hang out zone' downstairs - from the quiet bedrooms upstairs. I really wish I could have stayed here longer, it was lovely! You should know there is just one outdoor shower here, but it wasn't a negative for me, It was still private and secure, and it makes sense for a beach-y area. If you want a more lux bathing experience you may have to pay for an onsen. If you want more privacy than an onsen, you're stuck with the one outdoor shower.

Really grateful to have stayed here for 2 nights during the short period of time I went for Kumano Kodo trail walk. Accommod is clean and well equipped. Mayumi chiffon cakes are nice and soft, was a great help during the hike along the trails as well!

It exceeded my expectations, the guest house is very comfortable, smells so good and is well located, there is an Ashyiu (foot bath) less than 200 m away. And it's posible to visit a lot places by foot. The host is a great person and very friendly and willing to offer the best experience during your stay and recommend places to do in the city. Takami, thank you very much for your hospitality and for the ride to the train station. Wifi is excellent, but works best in the shared area.

Our host Takami was friendly and charming and gave us the run of virtually the entire house. Very laid back and relaxed atmosphere: perfect! We had a great time in Shirahama walking, swimming, soaking in a beach-side onsen and sampling the local cuisine and craft beer :)

Lovely little guesthouse with three rooms. Very cosy shared living area. You sleep on tatamis (comfortable!) and bathroom facilities are shared. We arrived by car and there was parking. Our host gave us some excellent recommendations around town. It’s in a residential neighbourhood about a 10 minute walk down to the beach and the tourist area, which is really nice (as the centre of town feels a bit touristy)

This is a charming and relaxed guest house not far from the beach. Beautifully renovated and looked after. Our host Mizu spoke perfect English and helped with everything we needed: bicycles, dinner reservations and even booking a massage! Nice relaxed atmosphere in a family setting.
